Jesus is minding his own business when a man accosts him by yelling loudly. Of course, what the man wants is very much Jesus’ business: healing.
Join us this Sunday morning! We worship together at 10:30 AM in our sanctuary, live-streaming the service for those at home (or on the road) right here. You are invited!

Welcome Rev. Pat Raube
Good morning, and welcome to this time of worship with
Union Presbyterian Church in Endicott, NY.
Welcome, welcome back, welcome home.
We meet a character in today’s gospel story who is pretty irresistible.
And they try to resist—but he insists on being heard.
Bartimeus. A man after Jesus’ own heart.
A man who demands mercy, and vision.
A man we might look to, when we consider our own relationships with God.
I am so excited to share his story,
and I am so glad we are on this journey together.
Call to Worship Trish Nilsen
O magnify the Lord with me:
Let us exalt God’s name together.
I sought the Lord, and God answered me!
You, O Lord, can deliver me from all my fears.
O taste and see that the Lord is good;
happy are those who take refuge in God.

Halle, halle, hallelujah!

Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
Call to New Life
Sometimes we just have to jump up and say, God, here I am, help me! What if we came to God, not timid and defeated, but confident, and bold? Let us pray together.
Prayer for Wholeness and Peace
God of mercy, we are your people. And you know the road we have traveled. You know where there is grief; you know where there is hurt; you know where we are discouraged, and unable to see the path ahead. Heal us God! Help us Lord! We are your people, and we trust in you.
We will pause for a moment of silent prayer.
And we pray,
God of all lovingkindness, we place ourselves in your hands. O Lord, save your people. Make us whole, so that we might be unfettered in serving you and glorifying your holy name. Amen.
Assurance of God’s Grace
Hear these words from holy scripture:
Take heart, get up: the Lord is calling you!
Hear God’s promise to God’s people:
I will lead them back, says the Lord. I will bring them home.
The steadfast love of the Lord is everlasting.
Nothing can separate us from God’s love. Thanks be to God!
Sharing of the Peace
In ancient days, a sacrifice was required for restoration of peace
between humans and God. No longer.
The sacrifice God desires is an open, willing heart: peace is here.
May the peace of God be with you.
And also with you.
Let us offer one another a sign of God’s peace.
Scripture Jeremiah 31:7-9
A reading from the Book of Jeremiah, beginning at chapter 31, verse 7.
For thus says the Lord:
Sing aloud with gladness for Jacob,
and raise shouts for the chief of the nations;
proclaim, give praise, and say,
“Save, O Lord, your people,
the remnant of Israel.”
See, I am going to bring them from the land of the north,
and gather them from the farthest parts of the earth,
among them the blind and the lame,
those with child and those in labor, together;
a great company, they shall return here.
With weeping they shall come,
and with consolations I will lead them back,
I will let them walk by brooks of water,
in a straight path in which they shall not stumble;
for I have become a father to Israel,
and Ephraim is my firstborn.

Scripture Mark 10:46-52
A reading from the Gospel according to Mark, beginning at chapter 10, verse 46.
They came to Jericho. As he and his disciples and a large crowd were leaving Jericho, Bartimaeus son of Timaeus, a blind beggar, was sitting by the roadside. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Many sternly ordered him to be quiet, but he cried out even more loudly, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” Jesus stood still and said, “Call him here.” And they called the blind man, saying to him, “Take heart; get up, he is calling you.” So throwing off his cloak, he sprang up and came to Jesus. Then Jesus said to him, “What do you want me to do for you?” The blind man said to him, “My teacher, let me see again.” Jesus said to him, “Go; your faith has made you well.” Immediately he regained his sight and followed him on the way.
Response Holy Wisdom, Holy Word:
Thanks be to God!

Prayers of the People
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me;
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
Melt me, mold me, fill me, use me.
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
Call for Offering
The earth is the Lord’s, and everything that is in it. All we are, all we have, comes from God’s outpouring of love upon us. With thankful hearts, let us bring our gifts, for the work of God’s church here and elsewhere.

We give you thanks, loving God, for the great bounty of your love. We ask you to accept, bless, and use these gifts we bring today. Will you come and follow me if I but call your name?
Will you go where you don’t know and never be the same?
Will you let my love be shown, will you let my name be known,
Will you let my life be grown in you and you in me?
Will you leave yourself behind if I but call your name?
Will you care for cruel and kind and never be the same?
Will you risk the hostile stare should your life attract or scare?
Will you let me answer prayer in you and you in me?
Will you let the blinded see if I but call your name?
Will you set the prisoners free and never be the same?
Will you kiss the leper clean, and do such as this unseen,
And admit to what I mean in you and you in me?
Lord, your summons echoes true when you but call my name.
Let me turn and follow you and never be the same.
In your company I’ll go where your love and footsteps show.
Thus I’ll move and live and grow in you and you in me.
Benediction From Common Prayer: A Liturgy for Ordinary Radicals,
by Shane Claiborne, Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove, and Enuma Okoro
May the peace of Christ go with you: wherever he will send you.
May he guide you through the wilderness: protect you through the storm.
May he bring you home rejoicing: at the wonders he has shown you.
May he bring you home rejoicing: once again into our doors.
