Advent 1: The Clay Cries Out

O that you would tear open the heavens and come down, so that the mountains would quake at your presence... ~ Isaiah 64:1

"Let's start with the most basic of questions as we kick off Advent this year: Do we really believe that Jesus is coming back?"

In the Christian world, Advent is commonly understood as a season of preparation for the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. But that is only one facet of the season. The scripture passage that begin the season speak of apocalyptic happenings--darkened sun and moon, stars falling from heaven, and the plea that God would tear the heavens open and come down... not exactly a gentle starlit family tableau at the manger. What do you think? Is Jesus coming back? And what does that mean, exactly? Join us at Union Presbyterian Church this first Sunday in Advent, as we hear the very clay crying out for God to come, and save. All are welcome!
