Race and Reconciliation: A Four-Week Class with Brianna Attey

Brianna Attey is a member of UPC and a junior at Union-Endicott School. At the invitation of the Rev. Jeff Kellam she has created a four-week class on the topic of Race and Reconciliation. Brianna writes:

“Conversations concerning race make white people uncomfortable. Rev. Jeff Kellam has asked me to formulate a Race and Reconciliation curriculum for the adult Sunday School class. This curriculum will be mirrored off of the forums that I've been giving at school for my 20% project. In honor of Black History Month, each week we will be tackling topics such as race in general, White Privilege, Reparations, the Alt-Right, equity vs equality, and many other topics that might come up in our enriching conversations.

“…By the end of this course, I hope to instill a better understanding of the plights of minorities in America and even around the world while also encouraging the members of our congregation to have a better sense of empathy for their counterparts of color. So, if you would like to be enriched, please consider attending the adult Sunday School classes in February. As Christians, we are positive agents of change, by tackling this problem together we become stronger.”

The class will meet at 9:15 a.m. in the large classroom. Even if you have never participated before, please come and experience Brianna's leadership.
