Call to Worship                                                                                                Arianna Neal

People were bringing children to Jesus

in order that he might bless them,

and the disciples spoke sternly to them.

But when Jesus saw this, he said,

“Let the children come to me.

Do not stop them,

for it is to such as these

that the kingdom of God belongs.”

We gather for worship

on a morning that reminds us of God’s kingdom. Jesus said,

“Truly I tell you,

whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child

will never enter it.”

But if we come as little children,

He will take us up in his arms, lay his hands on us, and bless us.

Let us worship God with the hearts of children.

Morning has broken like the first morning.

Blackbird has spoken like the first bird.

Praise for the singing, praise for the morning!

Praise for them springing fresh from the Word.

Sweet the rain's new fall, sunlit from Heaven,

Like the first dew fall on the first grass.

Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden,

Sprung in completeness where His feet pass.

Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning,

Born of the One Light Eden saw play.

Praise with elation, praise every morning,

God's recreation of the new day.

Prayer for Wholeness and Peace                                           Xavier Rivera

Wonderful God, we know that you love us and care for us. We want to be the people you created us to be, but sometimes it’s hard. We get mad and fight. We get hurt and try to hurt back. We don’t help when we should be helping, and we forget how to love each other. We need your help. Please teach us how to do better. Please show us the way. Please help us to remember your love, so that we can be more loving. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Words of Assurance                                                                Xavier Rivera

God cares for us. God wants the best for us.

God is kind and merciful. God doesn’t get angry easily.

God is filled with loving kindness.

God forgives us, and God will help us to do better.

Thank you, God! Alleluia! Amen.

Sharing of the Peace                                                                                   Channel Rivera

May the peace of God be with you.

And also with you.

Let’s share a sign of God’s peace.

Scripture               Psalm 30     (responsive)                                               Jay Rivera

I will exalt you, O Lord, for you have lifted me up

    and have not let my enemies triumph over me.

O Lord my God, I cried out to you,

    and you restored me to health.

You brought me up, O Lord, from the dead;

    You restored my life as I was going down to the grave.

Sing praise to the Lord, all you faithful;

    give thanks in holy remembrance.

God’s wrath is short; God’s favor lasts a lifetime.

    Weeping spends the night,

    but joy comes in the morning.

While I felt secure, I said,

    “I shall never be disturbed.”

You, O Lord, with your favor,

Made me as a strong as the mountains.”

    Then you hid your face, and I was filled with fear.

I cried to you, O Lord;

    I pleaded with my Lord, saying,

“What profit is there in my blood, if I go down to the Pit?

    Will the dust praise you, or declare your faithfulness?

Hear, O Lord, and have mercy upon me;

    O Lord, be my helper.”

You have turned my wailing into dancing;

    you have put off my sackcloth and clothed me with joy.

Therefore my heart sings to you without ceasing;

    O Lord my God, I will give thanks to you forever.

You make me want to be like You;

Your holiness I will pursue.

I want the heart of Jesus.

Show me the meaning of Your grace;

I want to give the world a taste

Of the Love of Jesus.

Make me salt,

Make me light,

Let Your holy fire ignite;

Reveal Your glory in my life.

‘Cause I am not ashamed to lift up Your holy name.

Make me salt, make me light.

You make me want to be like You;

Your holiness I will pursue.

I want the heart of Jesus.

Show me the meaning of Your grace;

I want to give the world a taste

Of the Love of Jesus.

Make me salt,

Make me light,

Let Your holy fire ignite;

Reveal Your glory in my life.

‘Cause I am not ashamed to lift up Your holy name.

Make me salt, make me light.

Set me as a city on a hill,

A lamp on a stand;

Mold me in Your image,

The work of Your hand.

Make me salt,

Make me light,

Let Your holy fire ignite;

Reveal Your glory in my life.

‘Cause I am not ashamed to lift up Your holy name.

Make me salt, make me light.

Scripture           Luke 10:25-37                                                  Kiara Neal , Xavier Rivera, Crosby Tunison

An expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he said, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” He said to him, “What is written in the law? What do you read there?” He answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind and your neighbor as yourself.” And he said to him, “You have given the right answer; do this, and you will live.”

But wanting to vindicate himself, he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”  Jesus replied, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho and fell into the hands of robbers, who stripped him, beat him, and took off, leaving him half dead. Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side. So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan while traveling came upon him, and when he saw him he was moved with compassion. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, treating them with oil and wine. Then he put him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him.

The next day he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said, ‘Take care of him, and when I come back, I will repay you whatever more you spend.’ Which of these three, do you think, was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of the robbers?” He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.”

Statement of Faith    From the PCUSA Brief Statement of Faith

Sophie Helgeson-Roode

We trust in Jesus Christ, fully human, fully God.

Jesus proclaimed the reign of God:

preaching good news to the poor and release to the captives,

teaching by word and deed and blessing the children;

healing the sick and binding up the brokenhearted;

eating with outcasts, forgiving sinners,

and calling all to repent and believe the gospel.

Unjustly condemned for crimes he did not commit,

Jesus was crucified,

suffering the depths of human pain

and giving his life for the sins of the world.

God raised this Jesus from the dead,

vindicating his sinless life,

breaking the power of sin and evil,

delivering us from death to life eternal.

I, the Lord of sea and sky,

I have heard my people cry.

All who dwell in dark and sin

My hand will save.

I who make the stars of night,

I will make their darkness bright.

Who will bear my light to them?

Whom shall I send?

Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord?

I have heard you calling in the night.

I will go, Lord, if you lead me.

I will hold your people in my heart.

I, the Lord of snow and rain,

I have borne my people’s pain.

I have wept for love of them,

They turn away.

I will break their hearts of stone,

Give them hearts for love alone.

I will speak my Word to them.

Whom shall I send?

Here I am, Lord.  Is it I, Lord?

I have heard you calling in the night.

I will go, Lord, if you lead me.

I will hold your people in my heart.

I, the Lord of wind and flame,

I will tend the poor and lame.

I will set a feast for them,

My hand will save.

Finest bread I will provide

Till their hearts be satisfied.

I will give my life to them.

Whom shall I send?

Here I am, Lord.  Is it I, Lord?

I have heard you calling in the night.

I will go, Lord, if you lead me.

I will hold your people in my heart.

Prayers of the People                                                             Rev. Pat Raube

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

[Verse 1]

Awake from your slumber! Arise from your sleep!

A new day is dawning for all those who weep

The people in darkness have seen a great light

The Lord of our longing has conquered the night

[Chorus]

Let us build the city of God!

May our tears be turned into dancing!

For the Lord, our light and our love

Has turned the night into day!

[Verse 2]

We are sons of the morning; we are daughters of day.

The One who has loved us has brightened our way.

[Chorus]

Let us build the city of God

May our tears be turned into dancing!

For the Lord, our light and our love

Has turned the night into day!

[Verse 3]

God is light; in him there is no darkness

Let us walk in his light, his children, one and all.

[Bridge]

O comfort My people; make gentle your words

Proclaim to My city the day of her birth

[Chorus]

Let us build the city of God

May our tears be turned into dancing!

For the Lord, our light and our love

Has turned the night into day!

[Verse 4]

O city of gladness now lift up your voice.

Proclaim the good tidings, that all may rejoice!

[Chorus]

Let us build the city of God

May our tears be turned into dancing!

For the Lord, our light and our love

Has turned the night into day!
