Welcome          Rev. Pat Raube

Call to Worship        Becky Conklin

O sing to the Lord a new song,

for God has done marvelous things.

Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!

Break forth into joyous song; sing praises!

Let the hills sing together for joy,

For the Spirit is coming! God will make all things new.

Hymn  #6 W & R

“Let the Whole Creation Cry”

(Public Domain)

Let the whole creation cry,
"Glory to the Lord on high!"
Heaven and earth, awake and sing,
"Praise to our almighty King!"
Praise him, angle hosts above,
Ever bright and fair in love;
Sun and moon, lift up your voice;
Night and stars, in God rejoice.

Christian striving for the Lord,
Prophets burning with his Word,
Those to whom the arts belong
Add their voices to the song.
Those of knowledge and of law,
To the glorious circle draw;
All who work and all who wait,
Sing, "The Lord is good and great!"

Men and women, young and old,
Raise the anthem loud and bold,
And let children's happy hearts
In this worship bear their parts;
From the north to southern pole
Let the mighty chorus roll:
“Holy, Holy, Holy One,
Glory be to God alone!”

Call to New Life

We no longer look for Jesus among the dead, for he is living, breathing, and among us. Let us open our hearts to the One who will not leave us orphaned. Let us seek God’s wholeness and peace.

Prayer for Wholeness and Peace

Before God, in the presence of all God’s people, we confess our brokenness: in the ways we wound our own lives, the lives of others, and the life of the world. God help us.

(a time of silent prayer)

May God forgive us; may Christ renew us; may the Spirit empower us to grow in love. Amen.

Assurance of God’s Love

With the whole church:

We affirm that we are made in God’s image,

befriended by Christ, and empowered by the Spirit.

With people everywhere:

We affirm God’s goodness at the heart of humanity,

planted more deeply than all that is wrong.

With all creation:

We celebrate the miracle and wonder of life and the unfolding purposes of God, forever at work in ourselves and the world. Thanks be to God. Amen!

Sharing of the Peace

May the peace of God be with you.

And also with you.

Let us share a sign of God’s peace with one another.

Scripture  Psalm 97

The Lord reigns! Let the earth rejoice;
    let the multitude of the isles be glad!
Clouds and darkness surround the Lord;
    righteousness and justice are the foundations of God’s throne.
Fire goes before the Lord,
    burning up enemies on every side.
Lightnings light up the world;
    the earth sees and trembles.
The mountains melt like wax
    before the Lord of all the earth.

The heavens declare your righteousness, O Lord,
    and all the peoples see your glory.
Confounded be all who worship carved images
    and delight in false gods;
    Bow down before the Lord, all you gods.
Zion hears and is glad,
    and the cities of Judah rejoice
    because of your judgments, O Lord.
For you are the Lord, most high over all the earth;
    you are exalted far above all gods.

You who love the Lord, hate evil!
    God guards the lives of the saints and rescues them
    from the hand of the wicked.
Light dawns for the righteous
    and joy for the honest of heart.
Rejoice in the Lord, O you righteous,
    and give thanks to God’s holy name!

Children’s Message       Rev. Pat Raube

Music: “Open My Eyes, That I May See” (Public Domain)

Scripture  John 14:8-18     Rev. Pat Raube

Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.” Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and you still do not know me? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own, but the Father who dwells in me does his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, but if you do not, then believe because of the works themselves. Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these, because I am going to the Father. I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If in my name you ask me for anything, I will do it.

“If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you forever. This is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him because he abides with you, and he will be in you.

“I will not leave you orphaned; I am coming to you.”

Gracious Spirit, heed our pleading;

Fashion us all anew.

It’s your leading that we’re needing;

Help us to follow you.

Refrain

Come, come, come, Holy Spirit, come.

Come to teach us; come to nourish

Those who believe in Christ.

Bless the faithful; may they flourish,

Strengthened by grace unpriced.

Guide our thinking and our speaking

Done in your holy name.

Motivate all in their seeking,

Freeing from guilt and shame.

Not mere knowledge, but discernment,

Nor rootless liberty;

Turn disquiet to contentment,

Doubt into certainty.

Keep us fervent in our witness,

Unswayed by earth’s allure.

Ever grant us zealous fitness,

Which you alone assure.

Prayers of the People          Rev. Pat Raube

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

There's a spirit in the air,
Telling Christians everywhere:
"Praise the love that Christ revealed,
Living, working, in our world."

Lose your shyness, find your tongue,
Tell the world what God has done:
God in Christ has come to stay.
Live tomorrow's life today.

When believers break the bread,
When a hungry child is fed,
Praise the love that Christ revealed,
Living, working, in our world.

Still the Spirit gives us light,
Seeing wrong and setting right:
God in Christ has come to stay.
Live tomorrow's life today.

When a stranger's not alone,
Where the homeless find a home,
Praise the love that Christ revealed,
Living, working, in our world.

May the Spirit fill our praise,
Guide our thoughts and change our ways.
God in Christ has come to stay.
Live tomorrow's life today.

There's a Spirit in the air,
Calling people everywhere:
Praise the love that Christ revealed,
Living, working, in our world.
