Youth Sunday

  • Union Presbyterian Church 200 E Main St Endicott, NY, 13760 United States (map)

For everything there is a season… a time to go to school, and a time to venture to new places and experiences! Join us as we celebrate our youth— those who can be with us and those who are still joining us online. We particularly celebrate our two high school graduates, Nathan Mann and Brianna Attey, both of whom are graduating members of the Union-Endicott High School class of 2021.

Bulletin can be found below.

Announcements                                                     Rev. Pat Raube

“The flowers beautifying our sanctuary today are given to the Glory of God by Kay and Sheldon McDonald, in honor of the 35 years of our association with the UPC family and of the 35 years of my singing with the UPC choir. UPC has a really great choir and we have done some wonderful music over those years. I have really enjoyed singing under the direction of Chris Bartlette. He has made it really enjoyable. We will miss you all.”  ~Kay & Sheldon

Welcome                                                                 Rev. Pat Raube

Call to Worship                                                      Arianna Neal

God knows us, through and through.

We’re an open book to God, who made us.

Whatever we say, whatever we do:

God knows about it, even before we do.

Whatever path we take, whatever road we’re on:

God goes before us, God prepares the way, God will meet us there.

Call to New Life                                                      Arianna Neal

God wants to help us to find the right path for our life. Let us pray with open hearts, for God to be with us and lead us on.

Prayer for Wholeness and Peace

God, we wonder where we are going. Sometimes we think we know just what to do; other times, it’s not so clear. Everyone has an opinion. But what matters most is you: the way you made us, the gifts you gave us, the hope you carry for us in your heart. Help us God. We trust in you.

Assurance of God’s Grace                                    Arianna Neal

God’s ways are so wonderful. God’s love is so great. For everything there is a season, and God will be with us through all of them. God is with us, in all we say, in all we do. Thanks be to God! Amen.

Sharing of the Peace

God loves us, and God wants us to share that love with one another. One way we do this is by sharing the peace—a sign that we care, that we see, that we are here for each other. Let us share a sign of God’s peace now.

Children’s Message                                                                           Rev. Pat Raube

Dear God,

Thank you for another year of school, coming to an end.

Thank you for everything we have accomplished,

with your help!

Thank you for the beginning of summer!

Thank you, that no matter where we go,

and no matter what we do,

we are yours.

We pray in Jesus’ name.

Amen.

Scripture                    1 Corinthians 12:12, 14-18, 26       Arianna Neal

For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.

Indeed, the body does not consist of one member but of many. If the foot would say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. And if the ear would say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole body were hearing, where would the sense of smell be? But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose…

If one member suffers, all suffer together with it; if one member is honored, all rejoice together with it.

Senior Message         Nathan Mann      Union Endicott High School ‘21

Scripture                    Ecclesiastes 3:1-8                           Brianna Attey

For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:

a time to be born, and a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
a time to kill, and a time to heal;
a time to break down, and a time to build up;
a time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
a time to throw away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
a time to seek, and a time to lose;
a time to keep, and a time to throw away;
a time to tear, and a time to sew;
a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
a time to love, and a time to hate;
a time for war, and a time for peace.

Response          Holy Wisdom, Holy Word:

Thanks be to God!

Response: God of new life, Hear our prayer.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Doxology    “Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow”  Heather Ingraham

Prayer of Dedication

God, you have blessed us so deeply with one another—with the bright faces we have seen today, and the young voices we have heard, and the shining hopes they share with us. Bless them, as they go, our gift to the world you have made. Bless us, who remain, and let our hopes shine as brightly, and our love flow as freely. We pray in your holy name. Amen.

Prayer of Thanksgiving for Faithful Service of Heather Ingraham

Heather was clothed with Christ in baptism,

and called by God through the voice of the church to her service as

organist, pianist, Youth Ensemble coordinator, and Scapegoats coordinator.

In addition, throughout this past year, she has shared her gift of song.

We remember with joy our common calling to serve Christ

and celebrate God’s call to all who minister among us.

The Lord be with you.

And also with you.

Eternal God, look with lovingkindness upon this congregation,

and upon your servant Heather,

for whose ministry among us we give thanks today.

We praise you for joys and accomplishments,

and for your grace, which has nurtured and sustained us

as we have journeyed together.

Even as Heather leaves us,

bind us ever closer to one another

and draw us nearer to our Lord Jesus Christ,

that we may continue to minister here,

and Heather may minister in the larger Church of Jesus Christ

with patience and love,

with wisdom and joy,

until we come at last with all the saints

to the place you have prepared:

We pray in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Benediction                                                            Brianna Attey and Nathan Mann

Go into the world in peace. Have courage!

Hold fast to what is good. Return no one evil for evil.

Strengthen the faint-hearted, support the weak, help the suffering.

Honor all people. Love and serve the Lord your God,

rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit.

And may the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,

and the love of God,

and the sweet communion of the Holy Spirit,

be with each and all of us,

This day and forevermore.

God is with us, so go in peace.

Thanks be to God. Amen
