The Bible is filled with stories of families and individuals forced to leave their homes for reasons of war, persecution, or natural disaster. Noah and his family were displaced due to a flood; Moses and the Hebrew slaves fled Egypt to escape religious persecution and oppression; Naomi was twice affected by famine. Today the Youth of Union Presbyterian Church wish not only to remember the stories and struggles of these Biblical refugees, but also to remind ourselves that worldwide there are 50 million refugees, asylum-seekers and internally displaced people struggling to establish safe and stable homes for themselves and their families. They need our support and our prayers. We remember the words of Paul to the churches of Galatia, “For the whole law is summed up in a single commandment, you shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (Galatians 5:14)
