The early followers of Jesus lived in anticipation of his imminent return. Within a few decades, though, letters began to circulate among their communities, offering encouragement for the unexpectedly long waiting time. Advent is a both/and season for Christians. We re-enact the long period of waiting for the birth of the Messiah, but we also live in the same tension as Christians 2000 years ago, with whom we pray, "Come, Lord, Come!" On this third Sunday in Advent we hear advice on patience from one who may have been Jesus' brother. We hope you'll join us!
